Burrowing Owls have long inhabited the land that FAU (Boca Campus) sits on. So much so that the schools mascot is literally a Burrowing Owl!

The School has plans to move forward with developing locations that are known to have burrowing owl nests to build out a parking garage for the future growth of the student population.

These Owls are protected, however FWC has granted FAU immunity. They are allowing the school to "non-lethally" harass the Burrowing Owls in order to get them to leave the land they occupy. This come in any means like filing their nest with sand and scaring them away.

We need to stop FAU from continuing the development of the 2 fields on the South East side of the Campus and get them to turn those areas into protected viewing areas. These owls are a unique and important species to the campus and should be used as an opportunity to educate the public on the very little land that these owls have left. They can use this as a space for local schools to do field trips, for people around the world to easily see these amazing owls living in their habitat.

If you go to check out the owls yourself (we encourage you to!) please bring some binoculars and stay at least 75-100ft away to give the owls proper space to feel comfortable.
