Save Es Pueto chiringuito - IBIZA
The Issue
For those of us who have had the pleasure of experiencing Ibiza, it's not just the famous nightlife and beaches that capture our hearts but also the charming local spots that make this island truly special.
Es Puetó a beloved chiringuito, embodies the authentic spirit of Ibiza.
Located in Cala de Bou (San Antonio Bay), it has been a pillar of the community for 57 years.
Family-owned, it's one of the few remaining local and authentic beachside restaurants where locals and tourists alike can taste the true flavour of the island and enjoy the warm, welcoming atmosphere that makes Ibiza what it is.
Unfortunately, Es Puetó is now facing closure by the authorities due to laws which were passed in 1988, 19 years after the much-loved venue originally opened.
The law is that chiringuitos should be able to be dismantled at the end of the summer season to protect the coastline, and prevent damage that can be caused by the turning winter-weather.
This iconic place is more than just a restaurant; it's a cultural treasure that preserves the tradition and character of our community.
Losing it would mean eradicating a piece of our history and talking away a place where both locals and tourists gather to share good food and warm hospitality, in a fabulous setting.
Beyond merely serving food, it supports local fishermen, maintains traditional culinary practices, and provides jobs to those those who depend on this establishment for their livelihoods.
Their prices have always been reasonable, something which is relatively unheard of these days in places that are popular with tourists.
They have kept things simple, never trying to turn it into a VIP, minimum spend, soulless establishment, like many others have succumb to here over time.
We acknowledge the importance of regulations, but we appeal to the authorities to consider the profound impact this closure would have on the owners, the community and the economy.
Instead of shutting down Es Puetó let's work together to find a solution that upholds the restaurant's operations, while meeting any necessary regulatory requirements as much as possible.
Community-focused resolutions can often preserve valuable cultural sites while ensuring compliance.
We call on the local government to engage in dialogue with the owners of Es Puetó and the community to explore viable alternatives to closure.
Perhaps there are compromises or adjustments that would allow them to continue welcoming visitors, while satisfying the regulatory demands.
At least during this season, to allow them to prepare for any changes once the summer ends.
Please join us in saving Es Puetó, by signing this petition.
Show your support for maintaining the essence of Ibiza and its cherished local establishments.
Let's keep Es Puetó alive for future generations to enjoy!
