Despite the good news and update from a couple months ago, I have sinking suspicion that SF Rec and Parks and the property owners have pretty-much already made up their minds about what to do with the Plaza and Vaillancourt fountain and that these public meetings are a mere formality.
When they put the fence around the perimeter of the fountain, for example, that was spun as a 25th hour decision made in haste. Bullshit. It takes months to plan these things.
However, showing up and voicing concern over the fate of the place, stressing that the plaza and fountain do mean something, culturally, historically, for generations of skateboarders and lovers of this place who have loyally visited the plaza and proven that it is more than the sum of its parts, will help the cause.
