So, here's what is going on behind the scenes in #Albany, New York this month...
I have discovered what I believe is flagrant misuse of student activity fee (SAF) funds by the @ualbany @UAlbanySA. It appears SAF money was used for a community religious (Catholic) school "free dinner" that was not aimed at UAlbany tax-paying students per se, but at the broader downtown city of Albany community at large, which transcends the guidelines on lawful use of SAF fees under state regulation 8 NYCRR 302.14.
A complaint was filed with the @SUNY Auditor Fraud Hotline and the @NewYorkStateIG. This may be why they started talking about selling @Dippikill @discoverdippi in the first place. To do more of the same and redistribute all of Dippikill's assets to Albany residents and church groups. We put a stop to that!
Right after I requested this state investigation, suddenly the #UniversityAtAlbany said Student Association (SA) was NOT (no longer?) looking into selling #Dippikill.
SA has since deleted their Instagram post about this free dinner event.
While feeding the hungry is an honorable and noble cause, using students' student activity fee money is not the right way to do it.
As a former SA President, I have asked the state to enforce the regulations and disallow the expense.
