Devunoor–Damera Forest is one of the most important natural ecosystems in the Warangal region. It acts as the green lungs for Warangal city and surrounding villages, helping regulate temperature, improve air quality, and sustain life. The forest is home to diverse plant, animal, and bird species—many of which depend entirely on this habitat for survival.

Recently, large sections of this forest have been cleared and burned, causing severe damage. This is one of the few remaining natural forests in the Warangal region. Once destroyed, such ecosystems cannot truly be replaced. Losing this forest would mean the permanent loss of irreplaceable green cover, wildlife and natural heritage.

For centuries, this forest has protected the region by maintaining ecological balance. The forest also contains natural water streams that recharge groundwater and support wildlife, nearby lakes, agriculture, and water needs of surrounding villages. Destruction of this forest threatens these vital water sources.

We urge the Telangana Forest Department and District Administration to:

 • Immediately stop all deforestation, burning, and land clearing activities

 • Conduct a transparent investigation into recent forest destruction

 • Ensure long-term protection through regular monitoring, strict enforcement of forest laws, and active community participation

If we remain silent today, this will not be the last forest we lose.

ఇటీవల, ఈ అటవీ ప్రాంతంలోని పెద్ద భాగాలు నరికి వేయబడి, కాల్చివేయబడ్డాయి. దీని వల్ల తీవ్ర నష్టం జరిగింది. వరంగల్ ప్రాంతంలో మిగిలిన కొద్దిమంది సహజ అటవీ ప్రాంతాల్లో ఇది ఒకటి. ఒకసారి నాశనం అయితే, ఇలాంటి పర్యావరణ వ్యవస్థలను నిజంగా తిరిగి పునరుద్ధరించడం సాధ్యం కాదు. ఈ అటవీ ప్రాంతాన్ని కోల్పోవడం అంటే తిరిగి పొందలేని పచ్చదనం, వన్యప్రాణులు, సహజ వారసత్వాన్ని శాశ్వతంగా కోల్పోవడమే.

శతాబ్దాలుగా ఈ అటవీ ప్రాంతం పర్యావరణ సమతుల్యతను కాపాడుతూ ఈ ప్రాంతాన్ని రక్షిస్తోంది. అంతేకాక, ఈ అరణ్యంలో సహజ నీటి ప్రవాహాలు ఉండి, అవి భూగర్భ జలాలను పునఃభర్తీ చేయడం, వన్యప్రాణులు, సమీప చెరువులు, వ్యవసాయం మరియు చుట్టుపక్కల గ్రామాల నీటి అవసరాలకు మద్దతు ఇస్తున్నాయి. ఈ అటవీ నాశనం ఈ ముఖ్యమైన నీటి వనరులను ప్రమాదంలోకి నెట్టుతోంది.
