Save Desotos Eatery and Atomic 10 on St.Clair Ave West

Save Desotos Eatery and Atomic 10 on St.Clair Ave West
The Issue
20 years ago, Tony Merante embarked on a journey to launch Regal Heights Bistro which is now known as Desotos Eatery on St.Clair West bringing a warm welcoming restaurant with family friendly dining options and affordable prices. Tony signed the lease for the restaurant on April 1st 2004 and opened the doors a few months later. For the past two decades Desotos has been a staple on St.Clair West and a familiar setting to many families, date nights, celebrations and special occasions.
Over the years Desotos has been impacted by many hurdles and challenges within the neighbourhood, city and financial hardships due to economical issues. Desotos battled with the St.Clair West TTC streetcar construction delays head on for years, pandemic closures and restaurant restrictions.
In 2016, the patio for Desotos Eatery and Atomic 10 were approved by the city inspectors and has been operating ever since. The city of Toronto and by-law departments are threatening to revoke the operating licenses which ultimately means the closure of both restaurants. We believe there is a disconnect between the facts and the allegations from the city on the regulations around the configuration of the patio. The patios of both businesses become a crucial part in the approaching warmer months and with a closure would jeopardize the lifeline of the business.
Desotos is home to a small business owner and family man. A familiar face to many patrons, a conversation starter and a community contributor to many school programs and non-profit associations. Atomic 10 is a foodie heaven and the home of many dishes seen across social media. Both restaurants staff several dozen employees from kitchen, servers, admin, marketing and more. All of these employees depend on these two establishments to earn a living and have been doing this for years. It’s a second home and would be deeply impacted if it had to shut down. Please help us in signing and sharing this petition to bring awareness to Desotos Eatery and Atomic 10 on St.Clair Ave West.
It is greatly appreciated, Tony.
