Hello, Davis Lane Community!
I have good news and bad news today, April 29, 2024.
The good news is that Rob Iafrate, Municipal Inspector, has arranged for a few of us to meet with engineering staff to ask questions on what they are going to do, the alternatives considered, the rational behind the location, and timing. The idea is to make sure they understand how badly a court is needed and make sure we can consider options together. My current plan is to have an engineer, real estate attorney, and communications director along with myself to digest their plans so that we can consider options and figure out a better way to communicate information on the project with our community.
The bad news is that I misinterpreted what the City of Arvada Inspector, Rob Iafrate told me, and had assumed the new line would go in place of the old one and just nip the corner of the courts. I thought he had to be incorrect when he said it would go essentially SE corner to NW corner but did not have a map to show me.
I’m in the process of putting together a new map with that updated information, but this reduces our chances of saving these courts quite a bit.
The other good news is that we now have 27 people who have agreed to be at the city council meeting, another 45+ that have signed the petition on paper thanks to Sharon Grim and Terri Parthum, and 113 people who signed the online petition. Our canvasing has shown that most don’t understand that the courts are being removed permanently and why.
I will post here when we have a date for that meeting set and we’ll do our best to find out what plans are and explore any alternative available to make sure courts continue to be located in Davis Lane Park.
Alan
P.S. (Here’s a cute video in a Nextdoor post that reminds me why we bother: https://nextdoor.com/p/8T9PWhWWK6qw?utm_source=share&extras=OTY1MDg0ODQ%3D&utm_campaign=1714426641099 )
