التلويح بأزاله وشيكه لمركز درب ١٧١٨ للفنون المعاصره

دعت السلطة المحلية مؤخرًا إلى إخلاء فوري للمبنى الرئيسي في درب ١٧١٨ والحديقه بجواره وكذلك المبنين الملاصقين والمطلين علي الشارع الخلفي الواصل بين كورنيش النيل ومتحف الحضارات وذلك دون اي إخطار رسمي بدعوي توسيع الشارع وبناء كوبري علوي رغم ان الجانب الاخر من الطريق فارغ تماماً ويمكن اضافه اي مساحه مطلوبه لاي توسعات بالشارع او الكوبري العلوي من ذلك الفراغ الهائل في الناحيه المقابله لمركز درب ، ويتم ذلك دون أي اعتبار للمساهمات والخدمات الهامة التي يقدمها مركز درب للفنون المعاصره في جميع المجالات الثقافية والفنية منذ إنشائه في عام ٢٠٠٨ ، ولا للمجتمع الحرفي المزدهر النابض بالحياة الذي تطور حول المركز.

نحن الموقعون نعرب عن قلقنا الصادق وندعو السلطات المصرية لحماية مركز درب ١٧١٨ للفن والثقافة المعاصر من الهدم. مركز درب ١٧١٨ له دور حيوي في حماية الحرية الفنية ورعاية المواهب الناشئة وتعزيز الفن المعاصر منذ تأسيسه في عام ٢٠٠٨.

مساهمة درب ١٧١٨ في الحفاظ على الهوية الثقافية لمصر لا تُحصى، حيث عززت المساحة الإبداع والتعبير الفني ، وخلقت ملاذًا للفنانين والحرفيين لعرض أعمالهم جنبًا إلى جنب مع فنانين متخصصين من جميع انحاء العالم . علاوة على ذلك ، نظم درب ١٧١٨ العديد من المهرجانات التي توحد المجتمعات وتجمع الناس من مختلف مناحي الحياة معًا لتقدير الفنون.

نحث الحكومة المصرية على إعادة النظر في قرار هدم درب ١٧١٨ الذي لاطائل من وراءه كما نحثها على استكشاف حلول بديلة تسمح باستمرار هذه المؤسسة الثقافية الحيوية.

The Imminent Demolition of another of Egypt's Cultural Gems

The local authority recently called for the immediate evacuation of the main building of Darb1718, without any official notification. The plan is to demolish the gallery in order to expand the street connecting to the Museum of Civilizations, showing no regard for the significant contributions and services that the Darb Art Center has been providing to artists in all cultural and artistic fields since its establishment in 2008, nor to the vibrant thriving artisan community that has developed around the center.

To Whom it may Concern ,

We, the undersigned, express our heartfelt concern and appeal to the Egyptian Authorities to protect Darb1718 Contemporary Art and Culture Center from demolition.  Founded in 2008,  Darb1718 is vital in protecting artistic freedom, nurturing emerging talents, and promoting Contemporary Art.

Darb1718's contribution to Egypt's cultural identity is immeasurable. The space has nurtured creativity and artistic expression, creating a haven for artists and artisans to showcase their work alongside established figures. Furthermore, Darb1718 has organized many festivals that unite communities and bring people from different walks of life together to appreciate the arts.

We acknowledge the importance of urban development and progress. Still, we believe that our cultural heritage and artistic spaces must also be cherished and protected. Demolishing Darb1718 would be a profound loss for our nation's cultural heritage, its artists, and the community it has served so passionately. In addition the demolitions will have a devastating effect on the artisan community in Old Cairo, disrupting this unique creative ecosystem.

We urge the Egyptian government to reconsider the decision to demolish Darb1718. We urge you to explore alternative solutions that will allow the continuation of this vital cultural institution. Together, we can find a way to preserve our heritage while pursuing the objectives of urban development.
