Save Crewe Truck Stop - there are no other facilities for truck drivers in Crewe
The issue
CREWE NEEDS A NEW TRUCK STOP

Our truckers are the lifeblood of our economy, without them, everything grinds to a halt. They need somewhere to stay overnight or the weekends. They are away from family, sometimes weeks on end, especially our European drivers. They need facilities such as toilets & showers, laundry & pot washing, & possibly a café where they can get a decent meal.
As with other towns & cities around the country, Crewe is rapidly developing as a logistics hub & is perfectly positioned to do so.

This is good news for the town from an economy perspective however, one thing seems to be overlooked & that is the truck drivers.
The current Crewe Truck Stop owners have been looking for land to relocate since they were informed that an eventual compulsory purchase order was in place, & are thwarted at every turn because more money can be made by building warehouses than leasing or selling land for services. This is short-sighted & can only lead to massive problems for drivers who have very tight regulations on their driving hours, meaning that they can’t just keep driving to another location.
Crewe Truck Stop is one of the top truck stops in the country & is unique for its close proximity to the town. The café is well used by the public as well as Drivers.
There are very few kerbside parking spots in the area & the current truck stop is often at capacity, leaving drivers with nowhere to go.
Without resources for the drivers, all the logistics development is pointless. Imagine no supplies to our shops! No home deliveries because the warehouses are empty!
If Crewe Town Council wants to maximise the current logistics boom, it needs to put the basic infrastructure in place, It has the opportunity to lead the country (sadly, this is a national issue) by prioritising land for a new truck stop that will serve our drivers.
If you believe our HGV drivers need a truck stop in Crewe, please sign the petition to encourage Crewe Town Council to make this a priority for our town.
