Save Chamberlain Park welcomes the nomination of Will McKenzie as the C&R candidate for the Albert-Eden Local Board (Maungawhau subdivision) by-election. Please don’t be apathetic. If you are in the Maungawhau subdivision, please post your votes asap!
Will is a strong advocate for the local community and has been for many years. He was an integral part of our five-year campaign to stop the carve up of Chamberlain Park and he strongly supports the retention of Chamberlain as an 18 hole golf course. It was his research that led to the Albert Eden plan to upgrade sports-fields resulting in more playing hours per field negating the need to find more land.
Will was also one of the leading drivers of the successful campaign to have an alternative proposal adopted for the development of Fowlds Park that has seen the fields upgraded with fibre reinforcing, not artificial replacement. This, and new lighting has resulted in Fowlds Park now being one of the premier winter sports facilities in Auckland.
His professional experience in sports management and the law, training in statistics, knowledge of transport solutions, extensive knowledge of council processes and grassroots community involvement makes him a great candidate for the Albert-Eden Local Board.
In his time in sports management Will, brought the AFL to Western Springs Stadium, was instrumental in bringing about the decision to redevelop Mt Smart as the Warriors home ground and was Executive Director of Epsom's Auckland Badminton Association.
Will’s philosophy encompasses better use of our sports fields and green spaces in Albert-Eden. This fits with the necessity to mitigate climate change.
Will is pro green space, pro community and has proven ability to work collaboratively to achieve the best results for our communities. Save Chamberlain Park wholeheartedly endorses and supports his candidacy.
