Dr Haynes needs to start being a bit more respectful of our chair Mr Senescall, the Save CP Group, and the community of Auckland instead of taking cheap shots at them through social media. We should be respected for what we are doing. Judicial Review is how communities test the valid exercise of power. And thank goodness people can do this in a free and democratic society. Last time we checked we had both freedom of speech in NZ and a judicial branch of government that has a “by design” oversight role over Local Bodies. Dr Haynes should be pleased about this. It is there as much for his benefit as it is for the rest of us. So instead of making gibes, Dr Haynes should respect that many hardworking people have taken it upon themselves to support this working class golf course with their own money to fund this Judicial Review. Many of these people also pay rates so they are paying twice by funding a team of council lawyers to defend their very own Judicial Review process – a process this citizen-led campaign believe has ignored an important recreational facility for decent Aucklanders and those without the money or the time to part with over $2,000.00 for a regular membership to a private golf club.
