Council's golf facilities discussion document states "There was a compelling case for change, (reducing Chamberlain Park from an 18 to a 9 hole course) based on: "Growing pressure on local sports field capacity." This is incorrect! On Council accepted data, the current surplus of sports fields (for soccer, rugby and league) in Auckland, including Albert-Eden, provides enough spare capacity to provide for the next 10 years, without improvements to fields or more fields, unless demand were to grow at 2.77% a year for 10 years. What there is a shortage of in Albert-Eden, and the rest of the isthmus, is provision for Auckland's most popular participation sport which is, wait for it,......golf!
