Save Casa Verde Park Community garden

The Issue

The people living around Casa Verde Park deserve to have a clean and safe environment where they can walk on the grass, see flowers, birds in the trees and not just stay on the side walk.

Over a year ago I started cleaning up one corner of the park close to my house. A few neighbors joined in after a while. We removed trash, feces, dead animals, dangerous objects and invasive plants crowding out native habitat.

After a while I started planting a vegetable garden and native flowers like California poppies. We used no chemicals and using cultural practices used very little water. We harvested lots of vegetables that were shared with the neighborhood. We even had a share-shelf for the harvest and neighbors would add fruit from their trees to share. Kids would come and pick flowers and learn about gardening, insects, and soil health.

As the garden got bigger we got the attention of the city. We were told to remove the garden or the city staff would do it and spray poison so nothing would grow back. Please help us keep this garden. We are not asking for funding or labor from the city, only that they let the small group of neighbors continue to grow flowers and food for everyone and continue to clean up the trash and control invasive weeds.

By signing this you are showing your support for our efforts and want us to continue to clean up, plant flowers and share fresh organic vegetables.
