The Issue
Cape Cod Country Club, a nearly 100-year-old course designed by the legendary Devereaux Emmet (architect of Congressional Country Club, among many others), is facing destruction. A plan is moving forward to replace the fairways and greens with a massive solar farm, permanently removing this historic landmark from our community for at least the next half-century.
While renewable energy is important, erasing an irreplaceable part of Cape Cod’s cultural and recreational fabric is not the solution. Cape Cod Country Club has been more than just a golf course—it has been a place of memories, competition, and connection, hosting Massachusetts Opens and welcoming countless Hall of Fame golfers over its 97-year history.
My name is Patrick Duggan, a 27-year-old PGA of America Golf Professional from New Silver Beach, Falmouth. I grew up here in the summers, falling in love with the game on Cape Cod’s courses—Cape Cod Country Club, Paul Harney Golf Club, and Falmouth Country Club. I began my journey into the golf industry caddying at Sacconnesset Golf Club, which led me to pursue a career as a PGA Professional. This course helped shape who I am today.
On Monday, August 4th at 5:00 PM EST, the Town of Falmouth and the Cape Cod Commission will hold a Zoom meeting to vote on whether to move forward with this plan. The outcome could erase nearly a century of golfing history in one vote.
I’m asking for your support to preserve Cape Cod Country Club—to protect a piece of history, a source of recreation for families, and a place that inspired countless people, including me, to pursue their passions. Please sign and share this petition to help save this historic course before it’s too late.
