The Issue

I've never had the privilege of visiting California's Great America Theme Park, but its reputation echoes among coaster enthusiasts like myself. It's renowned for its thrilling rides, particularly the iconic 1-2 coaster combination of RailBlazer and Gold Striker, which are considered among the best in the world. Added to this are the historical gems of the amusement world, two of the oldest B&M (Bolliger & Mabillard) coasters still in operation.

California's Great America is not merely an amusement park; it's an integral part of entertainment history in Santa Clara, California. Since its opening in 1976, it has continually offered adrenaline-pumping experiences, family-friendly attractions, and has hosted memorable events that resonate with generations of park-goers. The closure or any drastic changes to this beloved site would not only rob future generations of these experiences but also erase a significant chapter of the local heritage.

Currently, changing economic landscapes and development pressures threaten the very existence of this iconic park. It's crucial to remember that amusement parks like California's Great America are more than just business entities; they are part of our cultural landscape, providing joy, jobs, and a sense of community unity. In 2022, Cedar Fair announced that they had sold the land the park sits on to a real estate company called Prologis, and the park would close by 2032. However, many people expect the park to close by 2027.

By rallying together, we aim to urge local authorities, stakeholders, and the general community to reconsider any plans that could endanger the future of this cherished park. We propose exploring sustainable business models, such as diversifying attractions or hosting more events, to ensure the park remains viable for years to come.

Join us in this important cause. Help safeguard not only rides and attractions but also the memories that have shaped countless lives. Sign this petition to voice your support in preserving California's Great America for present and future generations.
