The people of Rensselaer County, NY are about  to lose Burdett Birth Center at Samaritan Hospital, the only labor and delivery unit in their county. Despite being a non-profit institution, St Peter's Health Partners executives are putting profits over the wellbeing of our community and the result will be the loss of the only maternal health hospital unit on our side of the river for an hour in either direction. 

This is in direct opposition to public officials at every level including the Mayor of the City of Troy, in which the hospital resides and the County Executive. This has raised alarm for civil right organizations like the New York Civil Liberties Union. This is a failure to oblige by the White House Blueprint for Addressing the Maternal Health Crisis. The community must speak with one voice to tell the hospital and it's parent company that this is unacceptable.
