Lots of updates!
First, the KCPS board did not take any votes on Bryant Elementary School yesterday, so the current plan to demolish the school remains in place.
Second, news coverage: Fox4 ran a news segment that included this petition and remarks made at the KCPS board meeting yesterday.
Third, more news coverage: Axios Kansas City published a piece about this campaign and a filing which temporarily halts the demolition of the school this morning. Important note: the demolition plan has only been temporarily halted, and for procedural reasons, not because the stakeholders have agreed upon a plan forward.
The school will not be safe until it is repurposed. So long as it remains vacant, it remains in grave danger. Therefore this campaign and petition will continue until it a repurposing plan that saves the school is agreed upon and implemented.
Therefore please keep sharing and leaving comments. We have passed 700 signatures in less than 48 hours, more than 71% of them coming from local zip codes, demonstrating deep and widespread local support for preserving the school. If you would to become further involved, please contact the petition organizers and make your views clear to the relevant decision makers.
