“Ban Open Gas Cooktops ,Fires & Hot Coals on the Brighton-Le-Sands Foreshore Now
The issue
Save Brighton-Le-Sands Foreshore – Ban Open Fire Gas Cooktops ,Hot Charcoal smoking pipes and Smoking. Protect Our Health, Wildlife & Community
Our foreshore is under threat.
Every day, people are smoking, vaping with burning coals, and using charcoal and open flames on gas cooktops.
This is dangerous.
Smoke and charcoal fumes are harming our children, and the elderly.
Cigarette butts and coals wash into the bay, poisoning fish, seabirds, and marine life.
Open flames put our foreshore vegetation, homes, and lives at risk of fire.
In December 2025, a fire started on the foreshore. Luckily it was contained—but what if it hadn’t been? The damage would have been catastrophic. Every time hot coals are left under our trees, it is a disaster waiting to happen. This is a direct threat to our homes and our lives.“
We are asking the Lung Foundation Australia and ACOSH to support our petition”
Council Rangers are not patrolling or enforcing the Smoke-Free Zone on the foreshore. The law gives Rangers the authority to stop smoking, extinguish illegal fires, and call Police if people refuse to comply.
We demand action now:
Full enforcement of smoke-free zones – no smoking, vaping with coals, or open flames or barbecues.
Council to install electric barbecues in designated areas with pay-to-use for a limited number of hours.
Daily Ranger patrols, especially Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and after hours.
Immediate Police intervention for non-compliance.
Active protection of our vegetation, wildlife, marine life, and community health.
Our health, our wildlife, and our homes are at risk.
Don't wait for a disaster to happen.
Sign this petition now and demand Bayside Council protect our foreshore!
