It is with great sadness that we share the news that Breck Road Community Library has now closed.
Despite our collective efforts, petitions, and the overwhelming support from this community, we were unable to prevent this closure. We know how deeply this loss will be felt — libraries are more than just buildings; they are safe spaces, hubs of learning, and places where communities grow stronger together.
We also feel it is important to be clear: this closure is the direct result of decisions made by Liverpool City Council. Recent press coverage has suggested otherwise, unfairly placing blame on Alt Valley Community Trust (AVCT). This is simply not the case. The responsibility lies wholly with Liverpool City Council, whose actions and short-sighted decisions have led to this outcome.
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to every single one of you who stood with us — signing, sharing, speaking out, and showing up. Your support has been incredible, and we are so proud of what we achieved together, even if the outcome is not what we hoped for.
But this is not the end of the conversation.
We invite you to join us for a public meeting to:
- Hear why the closure happened
- Ask questions and share concerns
- Learn what support is available locally
- Discuss the future for community resources
Venue: BNENC, Breckfield Centre, Breckfield Road North, L5 4QT
Date: Friday 17th October
Time: 1:00 PM
This is your opportunity to have your voice heard and to help shape what happens next. Please come along, bring your questions, your concerns, and your ideas.
Together, we can keep pushing for the resources, spaces, and support our community deserves.
With thanks and solidarity,
Alt Valley Campaign Team
