Based on our observations, it would appear that we certainly have a very healthy and sizeable population of Newts in the large pool. But what about other species, and in particular, the Great Crested Newt? According to the Ecological Appraisal from 2012, (when they removed trees, diverted the water course and built the pool that was described by Sandwell MBC’s Land Drainage Manager as “vital” for the development of the College Gate housing on Brook Road), this habitat was predicted to have a good to possibly excellent chance of having Great Crested Newts. Further investigation is obviously needed, but it is yet another example of the biodiversity that we have on Brandhall Green Space.
