Living in Madison, I have always enjoyed the tranquility that the Bradford Creek Greenway provides. It’s not just a pathway; it’s a cherished community asset that offers safe and picturesque escapes amidst nature for families, fitness enthusiasts, photographers and wildlife alike. Like many, I utilize the trail for a multitude of reasons including for photography, to find peace walking and/or rollerblading along its scenic route and use to even take my daughter "wildlife watching" there and  it breaks my heart to think of it being inaccessible for up to a year due to the proposed development plans by Madison Utilities.

Currently, there’s a plan to shut down a crucial section of the Greenway for the entire duration of the 'western interceptor project.' While we understand infrastructure improvements are necessary, completely cutting off access to approximately 2 miles of this space is unacceptable. This path is vital for residents seeking fresh air, exercise, and a safe haven to walk with their children, learn to ride bicycles or walk away from traffic danger. This willd disrupt many running groups that utilize the Bradford Greenway as well. 

We implore Madison Utilities to engage with community stakeholders and explore alternative solutions to this extensive closure. Temporary routes or phased construction to allow partial access could cater to the community’s needs without compromising safety. People and nature deserve better; we must find a balance that respects both the necessity for development and the limited outdoor leisure requirements of Madison residents.

The next Board Meeting will take place on Monday, September 21st at 7:00a.m. at 101 Ray Sanderson Drive.  I am signed up to speak but would love to have imput from the community on how this will impact them directly before I write my speech along with this petition.
