As passionate members of the Boulder tennis community, we are deeply concerned about the future of tennis in our city. The landscape of open and accessible tennis in Boulder is at an important juncture. With the recent sale of the Millennium Hotel and the impending demolition of CU South Tennis Complex to make way for student housing, we are on track to lose 27 vital tennis courts, displacing the members and families of Rocky Mountain Tennis Center (RMTC), CU Boulder's women's tennis team and other community members. This loss poses a significant threat to the vibrancy and accessibility of tennis in our community.
Our wheelchair athletes will be particularly affected by this loss. Without these facilities, their opportunities for participation will be severely limited. It's not just about sports; it's about inclusivity, health benefits and community spirit that these facilities foster.
In addition to serving our local community and athletes at CU Boulder, these courts have been instrumental in promoting tourism as they attract numerous regional tournaments each year.
We need your support now more than ever to advocate for the approval and construction of a new tennis facility in Boulder. This isn't just about replacing lost courts; it's about investing in our community's health, inclusivity, and love for tennis.
Kendall and Donna Chitambar, Rocky Mountain Tennis Center co-owners, have spent the past 18 months developing plans for a new tennis facility to replace the soon-to-close RMTC (slated for late next year). Their vision is to create a tennis home for players of all levels, including families, juniors, wheelchair tennis enthusiasts, programs for financially challenged children, and the CU varsity women’s team.
On December 4, Kendall and Donna submitted a plan with the county for a new tennis facility in Boulder County. We will need your support to help gain approval!
Please sign this petition if you believe that every resident should have access to quality sports facilities regardless of their physical abilities or social status. Together we can ensure that tennis remains an integral part of Boulder’s vibrant sporting culture.
