Save Blueberry Field!

Save Blueberry Field!

The Issue

Hi All,

Live music is integral to the culture of New Paltz, NY. In response to most all of our beloved live music venues being shut down, Blueberry Field was born. By hosting live shows nearly every warm weekend, we brought some light to this community in dark times. Since 2020, Blueberry Field has evolved. We've hosted bands + entertainment from all over. We've given opportunities to new artists to preform and our beloved established local artists to share their art. We've hosted local artists fairs, themed shows, sketch comedy, early AM yoga, and of course Jerry Day - a celebration of The Grateful Dead filled with music, games, and free cake. If you ask us, New Paltz feels a little more like New Paltz when you can hear live music playing as you walk down main street.

The shows we've been putting on have been a boon for locals old and new, college students, tourists, and the businesses surrounding. But now, we've reached an impasse. Over the years, we've racked up a number of noise complaints. Should these noise complaints continue, we'd be at risk of taking on some serious legal penalties. Live music is beautiful, but noisy of course, so we can't continue putting on shows until this is solved.

WHAT WE WANT TO DO:

  • Continue to feature local artists live and free of charge to the people of New Paltz
  • Begin developing our summer programming Bob Dylan Day, Jerry Day, etc.
  • Invite back all of our beloved bands that have been kind enough to donate their time to making New Paltz a more special + music filled place

WHAT WE PLAN TO DO:

  • Once we've gathered some signatures here, we plan on presenting to the Village board of New Paltz to see what kind of permits + workarounds we can figure out to make this work.
  • Once we can come to an amenable agreement with the local gov't we want to liaise with our neighbors to ensure there's understanding + comfort in how we'd like to schedule shows for the future.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

  • Just a signature :) We've been loving putting on these shows for you all and hope we can continue to do so. Seeing a happy crowd hanging out on the field on a beautiful afternoon is what makes it all worthwhile.

Thanks for reading!!

Best,

The Team at Blueberry Field
