The Issue

Denbighshire County Council has recently made the decision to not recommission a Shared Prosperity Fund “People & Skills” contract  to 'Blossom and Bloom', a charity that plays a vital role in supporting mothers and their babies. This crucial service is now at risk and has to close on the 31st May, threatening the well-being of countless families throughout our community.

>>

>> For years, Blossom and Bloom has been a sanctuary for new mothers, offering a wide range of services that include daily socialisation opportunities, well-being related support and signposting, development opportunities, parenting topic discussions and courses, breastfeeding tips, baby essentials in-house swap shop, heavily subsidised snack cafe

>> and all round cohesion of the local parenting community.

>> These resources are not just beneficial—they are essential. They help mothers who may be struggling with postpartum depression, those grappling with the everyday challenges of parenting, and those simply in need of a supportive network.

>>

>> Statistics show that 1 in 10 women in the UK experience postnatal depression within a year of giving birth, according to the National Health Service (NHS). Quality support services like Blossom and Bloom help to mitigate these challenging outcomes. By ensuring mothers have access to support, we aid in not only their recovery but also in the healthy development of their children.

>>

>> The decision to cut funding threatens to leave a significant gap in community resources. It dismisses the needs of the individuals Blossom and Bloom tirelessly works to support. Without this support, many families in Denbighshire face an uncertain future—one where they may not have access to the resources they desperately need in their most vulnerable moments.

>>

>> We urge the Denbighshire County Council to reconsider its decision and restore funding to this invaluable service. Our community's strength is measured by how we support its most vulnerable members, and securing funds for Blossom and Bloom will reaffirm our commitment to nurturing and empowering families throughout Denbighshire.

>>
