Save Bike Taxis in Bengaluru: Protect Our Right to Affordable, Fast & Eco-Friendly Travel!
The Issue
The Issue
To the Transport Department and Government of Karnataka,
We are bike taxi riders and daily commuters—office-goers, students, parents, and citizens who depend on bike taxis for our livelihood and mobility in Bengaluru.
For riders, this work is a lifeline. For commuters, these rides are a necessity. Together, we keep this city moving.
In a city overwhelmed by traffic jams, poor last-mile connectivity, and the rising cost of transportation, bike taxis have become essential:
They are affordable and accessible, especially for those who can't afford cabs or autos every day.
They are fast and efficient, helping people reach their destinations through Bengaluru’s notorious traffic.
They are eco-friendly, offering a more sustainable mode of transport with lower emissions.
But now, this entire system is under threat.
A recent High Court order has suspended bike taxi operations until a regulatory framework is created. This sudden decision has devastated over 1.5 lakh riders, many of whom depend entirely on this work to support their families. It has also left millions of commuters without a crucial transport option.
This ban hurts all of us—riders who lose income, and commuters who lose access to affordable and timely travel.
We, the bike taxi riders and the people who ride with us, jointly call upon the Government of Karnataka and the Transport Department to:
Allow bike taxis to continue under interim guidelines until a permanent regulatory policy is in place.
Ensure that the new policy protects our right to safe, affordable, and reliable transport—and our right to work.
Recognize bike taxis as an essential part of Bengaluru’s transport ecosystem, contributing to both economic opportunity and environmental sustainability.
We’re not asking for chaos. We’re asking for action.
We’re not demanding shortcuts. We’re demanding fairness.
Don’t let delays in regulation destroy our livelihoods and limit mobility for millions.
Don’t let policy silence the voices of working-class riders and everyday citizens.
Bike taxis are more than a convenience—they are a connection. A solution. A right.
Let’s protect this service—for riders, for commuters, for the future of our city.
