Save Beach Access: Thornton State Beach

Save Beach Access: Thornton State Beach
The Issue
Join the growing group of concerned bay area residents, business owners, dog owners, horse lovers and outdoor enthusiasts banding together to save public access to Thornton State Beach in Daly City, CA.
There is only one trail down to the beach from Olympic Way in Daly City. This multi-use trail is a very popular destination for recreation extending from the scenic bluff and cliffs overlooking Thornton State Beach all the way down down to the water.
A private land owner has erected a fence which now blocks the ONLY PUBLIC ACCESS path to Thornton State Beach. Developers have been after this land for years but thankfully with the help of the California Coastal Commission, CA State Parks and public advocacy as well as the results of geoseismic testing of the land has led to negative outcomes for ALL of them. Read all about it at Thornton Beach Bluff Preserve!

This fence negatively impacts outdoor use by the public including dog walking, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, para sailing and gliding, surfing, outdoor education about nature and more.
Daly City Fire and local Daly City police services now do not have vehicular access to the beach to handle emergencies. The Marine Mammal Center and other non-profits conducting nature-based education and environmental native plant restoration are now similarly compromised with no access to Thornton Beach Bluff.
Please help us preserve access to open space in Daly City. Sign our petition!
