Bayfront Park Chairman, Miami Commissioner Joe Carollo committed to visiting a number of downtown communities during Ultra Music Festival next weekend, in order to get a firsthand impression of Ultra's impact on downtown residential life. The timing of the visit coincides with reported negotiations between the Commissioner and Ultra producers for the future of Ultra events at Bayfront Park. In a previous Bayfront Park Board meeting, Commissioner Carollo stated that any Ultra contract must provide Bayfront Park with market value revenue and protect residents of adjacent communities from as much disruption as possible. In a sign for continued community action in downtown Miami, we learned that a downtown community adjacent to Bayfront Park retained the services of an acoustics engineering firm to conduct a noise study during Ultra and provide evidence for damages in preparation for possible class-action litigation against the Bayfront Park Management Trust and UMF Productions Inc. The Downtown Neighbors Alliance will closely monitor the Ultra negotiations to ensure that they provide appropriate limits on future events and minimize negative impact on the park and its surrounding communities.
