Newly elected Miami District 3 Commissioner Joe Carollo was appointed on Thursday as the Chairman of the Bayfront Park Board. Less than 24 hours later, Commissioner Carollo presided over a meeting that was convened at the request of District 2 Commissioner Ken Russell to discuss proposals for limits on future events at Bayfront Park. At the meeting, Commissioner Carollo expressed his concern about the "unbelievable" noise level that he experienced while driving on Biscayne Boulevard during one such event, the lengthy park closures and other impacts on residents and businesses in downtown Miami. The Commissioner also stated the need for park management to demand fair market value from event promoters. The Downtown Neighbors Alliance, represented at the meeting by the litigation firm Dubbin & Kravetz and by DNA leadership, presented its proposal for limits on park events. The proposal was designed to strike a balance between using the park for cultural and entertainment events and improving quality of life for thousands of downtown residents and small business owners. Commissioner Carollo stated that another meeting will be convened in early 2018 to discuss proposals and solutions for future events. Thank you for your support!
