Save Balmossie Fire and Ambulance Station

Save Balmossie Fire and Ambulance Station
The Issue
Balmossie Fire and Ambulance Station provides a vital emergency service to Broughty Ferry, Monifieth, and the surrounding areas.
The current proposals include downgrading the station to a retained (on-call) only appliance or closing it entirely. This will result in slower response times, reduced resilience, and greater risk to life and property.
We have already fought this battle once, previous attempts were made to close Balmossie Fire Station. It was only due to strong and sustained public pressure and political opposition that those plans were overturned.
The arguments made then, that Broughty Ferry and Monifieth require robust, local emergency cover, are just as valid, if not more so, in 2025.
This area has seen continued growth in population and housing, putting more pressure on public services. Removing or reducing fire cover now would be dangerous. Firefighters based at Balmossie respond to a wide range of emergencies; all types of fires, both domestic and commercial, road traffic collisions, and multiple types of specialist rescues. Their local knowledge and rapid attendance save lives.
A retained (on-call) only model or complete closure would leave this community exposed, with longer wait times for backup from other stations already under strain. We cannot allow these cuts to go unchallenged.
We Demand:
1. That Balmossie Fire and Ambulance Station remain fully operational with wholetime and retained (on-call) cover.
2. That no downgrading or closure take place as part of the current SFRS resource review.
3. That public consultation be genuine, transparent, and account for community safety above cost-cutting.
We call on:
✅The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service
✅The Scottish Government
✅Local councillors, MSPs, and MPs across Dundee and Angus
✅Every concerned citizen in the local area and across Scotland
This is about community safety. It’s about protecting firefighters. And it’s about standing up for the people of Broughty Ferry and Monifieth.
