Thank you for helping to keep Ahern grassy! Thanks to the outpouring of opposition to the City’s current plan, the City Manager was instructed to provide a report to City Council addressing some of the concerns we raised.

  • We are at a pivotal time and wanted to share some upcoming opportunities to keep up the pressure:
    • Monday, June 1, 4:30-6:00pm: we’ll be outside City Hall for a community awareness meet-up. Please drop by if you’re in the area.
    • Next Sunday, June 7, 4:30-6:30pm: weather permitting, we’ll gather for an informal potluck/picnic at Ahern Field. Come say hello, connect with neighbors, and enjoy some good food and conversation.
    • Next Monday, June 8, 4:30pm meet-up | 5:30pm City Council Meeting. The report is anticipated to go on the agenda. It would be great to have an array of voices of all ages making public comments!  At City Hall, we will coordinate babysitting activities outside the room, as needed. If you can’t be there in-person, you can participate remotely. We’ll send an update when the agenda is confirmed. We need as many Cambridge residents to speak up as possible, this may be our best chance!
  • You can see the DPW’s updated plans for Ahern Field (posted 5/27/2026) here.
  • We feel this is a critical time to act, before the City Manager proceeds with the current plan that still replaces the existing natural grass with 51,000 square feet of impermeable plastic turf.

Thank you!
