Thank you for your continued support for the campaign to save Acocks Green Library.

Make sure you use the library this week as statistics are being gathered on footfall and loans. Borrow books! We need to use the library to prove how much we want to keep it.

The Birmingham City Council public consultation on cuts to library services has now opened. There is an online session for Acocks Green on the 25th April at 10 am. Please attend and make your voice heard. You can find the link here: https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/info/50306/commissioners_intervention_and_improvement/2903/consultations_to_help_us_reshape/2

The questions in the session are designed to get the answers the council is looking for and we must make the counter argument even if they don't directly ask for it.

Keep Acocks Green Library on our high street, at the heart of the community where all can access it.

It must remain a professionally staffed public service, run by trained librarians, not volunteers, to ensure it is there for generations to come.

Protect the asset of the building, which belongs to the people of Birmingham.

Local libraries should remain dedicated spaces and not have other services shoehorned into them. They need to be protected as places of sanctuary for all.

An in-person drop in session is happening for Yardley (there is only one per constituency) on the 30th April at: Sheldon Community Centre, Sheldon Heath Road, B26 2RZ 10:45am – 1:45pm

If you can't attend these sessions, then please highlight how inaccessible they are by complaining to: LibrariesPublicConsultation@birmingham.gov.uk

The online questionnaire for the consultation is now live but has many flaws. We'll send out advice in the coming weeks on how to get the best from it.
