Save 2,900 Acres of Reserve Forest From a Navy Radar Project
The Issue
We are a united group of individuals — women, youth – hailing from various backgrounds. Dalits, Adivasi and people from rural and urban areas from across the world . We collectively join hands to voice our opposition to the hugely destructive Radar Project planned within 2,900 acres of reserve Damagundam forest land in Telangana, India.
This project, if allowed to proceed, will result in the eradication of a whopping Lakhs of trees. It is starkly counterintuitive to permit such massive decimation of our environment when the world is already bearing the brunt of extreme weather events and climate change. This forest is not just home to diverse wildlife but functions as a significant carbon sink that helps temper the impacts of global warming.
In a time of enhanced climate instability, it is nothing but ecological suicide to eliminate these precious natural resources. Furthermore, our farmers, the backbone of our economy and sustenance, are already grappling with mental trauma and resorting to drastic acts due to crop loss. This project will only increase their struggles.
We also cannot ignore the immense backlash this project could inflict on the local communities - approximately 60,000 people, residing in the 20 villages surrounding the forest, who rely on it for livelihood and sustenance.
the project will not just destroy the environment but also create huge health hazard for the locals who own the land
We challenge the inconsideration of these livelihoods and the climate – our shared inheritance for succeeding generations. We implore the relevant authorities to reconsider this project and invest in sustainable, people-friendly alternatives.
We appeal to you for your support. Stand with us. Be a voice for the trees, for the environment, for the farmers and for the locals set to be directly impacted. Help us stop the Radar Project. Your signature can make a world of difference. Make that difference today and sign our petition.
