Venice High School postponed their Class of 2020 Graduation Ceremony from Friday, May 22nd, 2020 to Thursday, July 16th, 2020. Two weeks before the graduation ceremony was set to take place, Principal Eric Jackson sent out an email to parents with the news that the ceremony would no longer take place, due to a recent spike in COVID-19 cases across the State of Florida. While this is of course concerning, Wink News published an article today, Monday, June 29th, 2020 that Lee County was still planning on holding their in person graduation ceremonies at the Hertz Arena for the same weekend Sarasota County canceled their ceremonies. Sarasota County's School Board and Venice High School Administration need to realize that enough is enough. The Class of 2020 has had too much taken away from them. If the Republicans can hold their National Convention in Jacksonville, Florida and school is set to resume only three weeks after Thursday, July 16th, 2020, why can't the seniors have their graduation?
