Over the past several years it has become evident that the nickname and logo debate has created a source of great debate, dialogue and extreme division within the University of North Dakota system; among alumni, students, fans and stakeholders. Many would say it is too much of a distraction. The sad thing is if ONLY the administration would've stopped and said let's sit down and listen to each other and hear what we all have to say we would be a lot further along in this process. Instead they took it upon themselves and decided what they thought was best for us. We are extremely passionate people when it comes to our University, our nickname and our logo. The logo that was thrown at us was a slap in the face after all of the arguing. No we weren't and aren't ready to let go of our tradition, honor and loved Sioux name however to miss the mark so horribly with this new logo is a disgrace. The University had an amazing opportunity to give us something to slowly start standing behind. Instead they said here have this; something that doesn't represent who you are. Schaefer wanted to be "that guy". Sadly it seems the only way the school will listen to any of us is to stop donating money. President Kennedy had his opportunity but again he hasn't asked, at least that I'm aware of, to sit down with the Spirit Lake Tribe and some of us who are passionate and still moving forward. You can't keep ignoring your biggest stakeholders in all of this. I've never been more ashamed of my University! It's time to sit down and have an adult discussion. This is what I'm asking of the current administration. How many of you think they will accept?!
