That's right. Employers shouldn't force employees to stay. If an employee wants to leave a company for better prospects or some other reasons, the company shouldn't try to hamper their chances of getting another job by enforcing a 3 month notice period. Usually no company is ready to wait for 3 months or even 2 months unless the recruitment is for a very senior level position. Since the companies aren't ready to wait, a lot of employees lose chances to move for better. It is not always for money. Sometimes employees would like to leave the company because it is taking a toll on their health or it is not as per what they had expected or because their job is making them miserable. But the notice period of the company stops them from moving outside. And in the current economy people don't want to to take chances of putting down their papers first and then search for a job, as that would be very risky for them as they might end up being unemployed. It is time to put an end to corporate exploitation of employees. Freedom should be given to corporates to conduct business but not on how they treat their employees.
