TELL THE CITY OF SANTA CRUZ TO NOT APPLY FOR PROHOUSING DESIGNATION. IMMEDIATE ACTION IS NEEDED by Monday 9/28

TELL THE CITY TO NOT APPLY FOR PROHOUSING DESIGNATION.  YOUR IMMEDIATE ACTION IS NEEDED by Monday 9/28:

Our City officials plan to apply for State ProHousing Status. A more accurate term would be ProOverbuilding Status. To earn the ProHousing designation the City would have to:

End Public Hearings
Increase density and exceed current state mandates (now 3736 units)
Further reduce parking requirements
If the City gets the Pro-Housing designation it will accelerate development

Ocean St, Water St and Soquel Ave are PRIME locations for increased density
Potential benefits are not worth trading for more excessive state requirements and control
ProHousing designation is completely voluntary. It is not required!
The '48 Requirements' for Prohousing Status will functionally END City Zoning as we know it.
There is a link further down to see the '48 Requirements' for Prohousing Status There is a 7-day Public Comment period ending September 28. The last day to submit public comments is MONDAY.  MAKE your voice heard!!!

Tell the City to NOT apply for Pro Housing designation. The impacts to our city will be devastating. Respect your constituents who are giving you a clear message.

The City of Santa Cruz is way ahead of other cities in California on building affordable housing. We are creating affordable housing at a very fast pace. We have sat through dozens of Public Hearings and Developer Community Meetings. We have listened to neighborhood concerns about impacts of high-density projects, including traffic, parking, noise, loss of sunlight and privacy, loss of neighborhood character, and hideous architecture. The City Planning Department and City Council have told us over and over that because of the 100's of new State Housing Laws and 'Objective Standards "we are unable to deny or change a project, no matter how impactful it is. If it meets Objective Standards, we have to approve it". They tell us they are "helpless" to do anything about all this intense development. But NOW they are choosing to VOLUNTARILY increase the pace and intensity of development and take away the public process.
