The Santa Cruz City Council today, April 11th after 3 p.m. will go BEYOND the State law AB 2097 to remove any requirement for parking for any commercial or residential development within a half-mile of major bus transit stops in East Santa Cruz. The change is there will be NO EXCEPTIONAL even if parking helps the City meet its state's Regional Housing Needs Allocation targets for housing development. There would be no parking for people with disabilities, for electric vehicles, or for working-class professionals that need a vehicle.

  This Ordinance will have a major impact on most businesses on the transportation Corridors. 
• 
  The City of Santa Cruz should not limit parking spaces more than the State Government of California!
• 
  The proposed Santa Cruz law goes beyond state law in the following ways:
  ·  No exceptions. The state law allows cities to require parking in a project if parking would help the city meet the state’s targets for housing development, known as Regional Housing Needs Allocation, or RHNA goals. The proposed law would not allow this exception.

• ·  The proposed law would apply to event centers. State law allows cities to apply requirements for event center employees. The proposed law would not specify parking requirements for a potential new Santa Cruz Warriors stadium. That issue would be dealt with in a separate process, according to the staff report.

• ·  No required parking for electric vehicles or people with disabilities.
  Call in today at 3 pm to state you do not agree with the proposal to change the allowed parking to limit the amount of parking more than the state law.
