Express your views on the building. The building is proposed for the corner of Soquel and Cayuga at 1024 Soquel. Many residents of Santa Cruz are concerned about the design. The building is mostly market-rate housing - 8% affordable - which is the rate of housing now throughout Santa Cruz 11 market-rate housing (and 1 affordable unit - moderate income-8% affordable. Many residents would like to see more than one affordable unit due to the need for affordable housing. The developer has proposed Tandem-parking - the developer asked for 50% reduction in parking and continued to push back on parking in an already over-parked central area of Soquel (per Chris Schneider, Asst Dir of Public Works). The developer was awarded 10% reduction but said he would continue to push the parking issue in the future. Please write to the city council regarding your views on less parking than the city recommends. Without amble parking cars will flow into neighborhoods and cause additional congestion. Is this fair/right for the developer to ask for the rules to be bent to accommodate what he would like rather than the surrounding residents in an already congested area? Please write the city council with your thoughts. The Eastside Business Area Plan calls for pedestrian engaged commercial area and instead we are gaining an office space for the Owner/Developer that continues to push for many of the more objectionable issues of the Corridor Plan without neighborhood protection / integrity. The current appeal needs your support. By writing the city council and asking for a design review on infill development which needs a Design Review process that integrates the building and its uses into the fabric of the surrounding Community. The proposed development doesn't have a warm and welcome context with the surrounding Commercial area and neighborhoods. We ask that the City Council reject this proposed building design. Write the city council and tell them your view on the design. A few residents stated the design reminds them of a spaceship on the upper corner section of the building. Is this what we want for our charming town? The appeal asks that a review the materials be done and confirm that they meet quality and standards as one of the Cornerstones of Soquel Commercial area. Dark Green Heavy Gauge material is not what is represented in other locations. A review of the materials is needed which are more in character with the surrounding area. Thank you for all of those who take action. Please use the citycouncil@cityofsantacruz.com email address. Thank you.
