Those who care about Santa Cruz and wish it to be livable and an enjoyable town to visit please pass this on to others you know. You may copy and paste the information written on this Change.org update into an email and send it to those you know so they can be informed and can help to add their input on what is being proposed for the City of Santa Cruz. The increase of population would affect nearby areas. People in Soquel, Capitola, Aptos, Scotts Valley may not know this information and it is important they know what re-zoning may occur on the corridor streets and the plans UCSC stated in this news article below. The goal is for as many people as possible to write the Santa Cruz City Council to motivate them into scheduling meetings with the University of California Regents in Oakland. The sooner they address the enrollment increase UCSC is planning the better. The UC's report to the State of California. It would be good to write the governor of Calif as well notifying them of our request for UCSC to cap their enrollment due to our housing crisis and limited city resources. There is room for UC Merced to expand. UCSC needs to cap enrollment at 18,500 students. Please write the governor and the regents indicating UCSC needs to add housing on their campus. ***The more the Citizens speak up the better.*** Spread the word. Stay informed. Write letters to both the UC Regents and the City Council of Santa Cruz now! The City Council has appointed an ad hoc committee to make recommendations on housing for Santa Cruz in March 2018 to the city council. Please write the ad hoc committee now to express the need for them to contact the UC Regents and the governor to cap enrollment of UCSC and not to re-zone for 5 and 6 story buildings on Water St. and Soquel Ave. The City Council members on the ad hoc committee are Martine Watkins mwatkins@cityofsantacruz.com Cynthia Chase who is up for re-election this November 2018 cchase@cityofsantacruz.com and Sandy Brown sbrown@cityofsantacruz.com State you do not want UCSC to be allowed to increase enrollment to 28,500 students. Santa Cruz cannot handle the increase of 10,000 additional students on the UCSC campus Please write the UC Regents in Oakland regentsoffice@ucop.edu and the Santa Cruz City Council to inform them the City of Santa Cruz and nearby areas cannot handle 10,000 more students.
