IMPORTANT TO ATTEND THIS MEETING AS THE RECOMMENDATION IS: That the Planning Commission hear the presentation, accept public comment, discuss the zoning code and provide specific code language changes and direction.
The following is an accurate and important statement from Gary Patton, Attorney in Santa Cruz, who has a long record of local, regional & state public service including years of experience on the executive director level statewide and former Santa Cruz County Supervisor:
"Patton explained, “Traffic will get worse throughout the city, if this plan proceeds as currently designed.” Moreover, transforming our neighborhoods into replicas of what you can see in San Jose will not mean more affordable housing. Because the proposed rezoning will raise land prices, which is the biggest single cost in any residential building project, there is a likelihood that the current plan will make things worse, not better." Gary continued to say,
"I think that the current proposal would have many adverse impacts on the community... The zoning code provisions suggested would result in a very significant change to the scale and character of the community in all the areas slated for the new, more intensive development."
