Sanction Supporters of Uganda Kill the Gay Bill

Sanction Supporters of Uganda Kill the Gay Bill
The Issue
MPs in Uganda passed a Genocidal homophobic bill, targeting LGBTQ & criminalizing them for simply who they are.
Here are few noteworthy details about the bill
- Person who consents to a same-sex sexual act is liable to life imprisonment.
- Attempt (no sexual act), 10 years
- Aggravated Homosexuality, death
- Keeping a room, premises or house that facilitates acts of homosexuality, 7 years and 14 years for the occupier or manager of the premises
- “Sweeping” promotion (normalization, media etc) 20 years
- For not reporting suspected Homosexuality, UGX 100,000,000 or 6 months imprisonment
- Same sex between children- 3 years prison for child
- I billion UGX fine for a legal entity, suspending license for 10 years or cancellation.
- This bill sanctions extrajudicial violations against minority Ugandans. 58 violations by short time of writing this petition
Discrimination against LGBTI people undermines the human rights principles outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. when states seek to criminalize their citizens simply for who they are this state-sanctioned prosecution leads to violence & is especially condemnable
We call on the State Department @StateDept & Secretary Blinken @SecBlinken to fulfill their commitment to Human Rights & send a clear message Genocidal homophobia carries consequences & isn't welcome. We call on President Biden @Potus to exercise his authority by invoking the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act. against Ugandan MPs & clergy who promoted & lead the hateful Anti-Homosexuality Bill known as #KillTheGay bill with sanctions authorized by the bill- blocking of assets, prohibition of transactions, and denial of entry into the United States
The Ugandan bill targed LGBTQI was adopted on March 21, 2023. It reinforces already existing legislation banning gay sex, it also bans LGBT+ identities
The Bill now awaits President Museveni's signature. We must discourage him from signing and penalize those who have voted or advocated in favor of the Bill. Travel bans are known to be one effective way of impacting those responsible for hateful legislation.
Update following this bill in co-operation with USA-based hate group Family Watch International (FWI) -Kenya Homa Bay Town MP George Kaluma introduces new anti-gay legislation in Kenya's Parliament that seeks to criminalize LGBTQ - we ask to invoke the Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act in the case Kenyan MP George Kaluma as well as he calls for adopting this heinous hate bill to target Kenyan LGBTQI
