Save alternative education programs in San Ramon Valley USD
The Issue
Parents in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District want to keep alternative education programs as an option for their students. The premise behind alternative education is that “one size doesn’t fit all.” In other words, not all students will thrive or reach their full potential in the traditional school environment.
The goals of alternative education programs include:
- Maximize the opportunity for students to develop the positive values of self-reliance, initiative, kindness, spontaneity, resourcefulness, courage, creativity, responsibility, and joy.
- Recognize that the best learning takes place when the student learns because of his or her desire to learn.
- Maximize the opportunity for teachers, parents, and students to cooperatively develop the learning process.
Currently, two elementary school programs in the District are in danger of being phased out -- the FOCUS program at Neil Armstrong and the Continuous Progress Alternative Program (CPAP) at Vista Grande. If you live within the San Ramon Valley School District boundary, please tell your District administrators and the Board of Education that you support keeping these programs available for future students.
