I want to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported #LetOurGirlsPlay. When I started this petition I thought maybe we would only have 100 signatures, but after just 10 days we have received nearly 700 signatures. The support we have received has been incredible. Thank you. Unfortunately, we were not able to convince SMNLL to allow our girls to play in their tournament or to even play the winner of their tournament. But we were able to do so much more. I had several conversations this past week with the leaders of SMNLL and CALL. I kept hearing, “these games are just practice”, “these games don’t mean anything”, and “it doesn’t matter.” These statements are upsetting and couldn’t be further from the truth. To our coaches who continued to sacrifice their personal time and work hard with these girls, it matters. To the parents of the CALL Ducks who are raising the next generation of strong, competitive women, it matters. And most importantly to these girls, who are between the ages of 6-8 years old, who kept showing up to practice and games with their head held high, incredible focus, and eye on the ball, it matters. I am happy to share these girls ended the season with yet, another win. The lessons they learned this season are far more valuable that developing softball skills alone. I am now looking towards next season with optimism. Our concerns have been heard. I for one, am hopeful that necessary changes will be made to prevent this from happening again. Thank you again for your support.
