30th. St North Park San Diego, Ca Bike Lane Opposition

30th. St North Park San Diego, Ca Bike Lane Opposition

The Issue

We are running out of time to make our voices & concerns heard by Mayor Kevin Faulconer & Councilman Chris Ward regarding the plan for the 30th St pipeline project in North Park from Adams Ave. to Juniper St. in Golden Hills. Included in the re-pipe plan is to incorporate protected bike lanes. They will not consider using alternate streets to ride with less traffic.  The Mayor needs to comply with the existing Master Bike Plan adopted 2013, showing Utah St. as the bike route.  Businesses NEED parking on 30th St. We need to find a safe homogenous plan for ALL residents of North Park including all emergency vehicles, not just the “special interest” of the Bike Coalition group.  Please sign our petition to OPPOSE any 30th. St. parking decrease.

Parking removal of any kind will force shoppers & delivery vehicles to park in surrounding neighborhoods.

The benefit of a continuous, 4.1 mile long bike lane, does not justify the potential of significant impact on the adjacent residential areas.

The City of San Diego & The North Park Planning Committee did not give residents proper information of what was being planned or allowed for any of our input, until April, 2019 with a decision by the Mayor to be made early June.

The NEEDS of our community as a whole have not been considered at all.  Only the WANTS of a “special Interest group” of bicycle enthusiasts have been considered by the council office.  Elderly, limited physical mobility, safety factors of fire & paramedics emergency vehicles need to get to their destination as quickly as possible, not be caught up in traffic with no turn lanes, or places to move out of their way.

It seems the option of painting “sharrows” and “bike lane” paint on the asphalt is more likely to happen than permanent structures installed along with the re-pipe project.

The City Council in 2013 adopted a “Master Bike Route” plan.  It specifies the bike route through North Park will be on Utah Street.  There has not been any plans presented showing that solution and Councilman Ward’s rep said there will not be any plans drawn for that solution to the problem.

The City needs to be conducted and shared with the neighborhood regarding the impact of replacing street parking with bike lanes.

The City parking structure expecting people walk all over North Park, does not consider merchants customers, handicapped people & vehicles, women with small children or older customers. It’s not for everyone. We need consideration for the entire community of North Park.
