Dear Southern California Tax-payers, Voters, Citizens, and Friends of the Animals being held hostage at Apple Valley Animal Shelter,
I'm writing to you regarding the Apple Valley Animal Shelter(AVAS). We need your voice to speak up for the animals that in my opinion are being held hostage at AVAS.
It has come to my attention that many national media outlets - including television, newspaper, social media feeds and news magazine shows - are beginning to cover the atrocities happening at this tax-funded animal pound managed by the Apple Valley City Council.
In order to give media full access to both positive and negative stories, I'm asking anyone who has had a positive or negative experience at the Apple Valley Animal Shelter to text me at 213-948-3165. I understand many citizens are afraid of the staff at Apple Valley Animal Shelter because they have experienced in their opinions severe retaliation, threats, harassment, and stalking from their staff, city officials, volunteers, and community members as they continue to try to hide their actions. Please remember you are the ONLY voice these defenseless animals have.
The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors (our elected officials) are about to give this animal pound a renewed contract worth more than $500,000 each year. This goldmine for the City of Apple Valley is their fourth leading source of annual revenue generated for the city each year, not the animals. Sadly, when you look at their annual budget, in 2018 they spent less than $1000 all year on food for thousands of animals while thousands died. We all know our tax-dollars cannot continue to applaud such poor performance. In my opinion after looking at the shelter's budget, you can see that the City is using the killing of animals as a fundraiser for the town. #BloodMoney #ContractKillers
I want to assure you that I'm looking for verifiable stories. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated and forwarded to the media who has requested names and phone numbers. These are HUGE media outlets. We've been to City Council meeting after City Council meeting. THEY DO NOT CARE. They have not responded.
I'll close with this. One day a few months ago, I was checking on a dog at AVAS, I asked the rescue coordinator why she doesn't tell the truth about the animals in her care. She said she didn't know what I was talking about. I asked her if a certain dog was still available. She said no. She told me the dog was no longer available. Now get this. I was standing outside of the kennel of the dog she was lying about. When I told her I was standing in front of the kennel, I asked her why she was lying to me. She told me it was policy. And then she continued, if you want to do something for the animals...save them all. She said that she never saw me adopt an animal from that shelter or rescue one.
I didn't respond to her in that moment because I was baffled at the LIE she just told me and I didn't know what to do with that information. But today I'm ready to respond, "It takes a village my friend. The bottomline is I pay tens of thousands in taxes each year to the County of San Bernardino. I own two businesses and two homes. A portion of my tax dollars goes to pay your salary. Another portion goes to fund the care of those animals." Why do I even need to answer her question when her policy is to LIE about the animals in her care. It's disgusting we can't do better.
We've told the city council. We've emailed the city council. NOTHING! It's policy. That's why. In my opinion, when you benefit from the killings of innocent animals, of course you are going to quietly go cash that check. It is blood money. People do it all the time. You never talk about blood money.
Change won't come until we create the change. If you have a positive or negative story to share about the pound, please text me so I can pass along your information now and in the future.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Theodore Trentman
