FELINE PANLEUKOPENIA VIRUS AT DEVORE!

We went through something sad and maddening along with being frustrated concerning DEVORE !!!! Yes you know the name and have heard it right here!

A few days ago my foster and I spoke about saving two (2) female kittens of a similar same age from the Devore Shelter. One all black and the other black and white.

The black kitten was ready to go and transport was arranged. The black and white wasn't ready for a few more days even though she was Code Red due to eye inflammation (according to the post). I found out that there was a possible adopter for the black one so we needed to wait until 12pm noon - even after they told us that she was available the night before – but was told that they don’t HOLD animals for rescues! First come first serve, so my transporter was going to be there at 10am when they opened to be sure we got her.  I received a message back that she had been adopted. Okay, moving on. We would move forward with pulling Emmarie, the sick black and white kitten on 12/9 when available.

Backing up a tiny bit there was another kitten we considered…a Gray Tabby, well they killed that one because he was sick.

In the meantime I asked again about getting our little black and white kitten out early (asked twice) since she was sick….NO RESPONSE FROM THE SHELTER!!! Keep in mind she is code red which means if no one steps up for this baby she will be killed. Now as we are waiting, my foster get word from one of her networking friends that a black and white kitten was just found dead in it's kennel! Turns out it wasn't ours (Emmarie). So we now have two (2) dead kittens in two (2) days. One at the hands of Devore and the other all alone in his kennel. These are TINY Kittens. Kittens who should not be alone. Yesterday another of my foster’s networking friends contacts her... our tiny kitten (Emmarie) was found DEAD in her kennel. All alone. They didn't give her a chance when she could have had a chance with my foster who would have cared for her round the clock.  She was alone. Please think of that for a moment. A tiny kitten alone. Very friendly. Needing help and someone who cared. We cared. DEVORE DID NOT CARE.

Her name was Emmerie. We loved her even with never meeting her.

Another day goes by and we learn from a RELIABLE source within the shelter that the Devore Shelter cats and kittens are under attack by the FELINE PANLEUKOPENIA VIRUS better known as the “cat Parvo” virus. This is what killed these kittens. Many adult cats are sick as well.

THE SHELTER HAS NOT NOTIFIED RESCUES OR POTENTIAL ADOPTERS OF THIS SITUATION. UNSUSPECTING RESCUES ARE POTENTIALLY EXPOSING THEIR OTHER RESCUE CATS TO THIS VIRUS.

Will the little all black kitten we wanted exposed to this? Will these adopters lose their new baby? They will be devastated.

ONE RESCUE LOST 12 of her cats at all once – the majority of them are from Devore.  It’s unconscionable to NOT notify rescues and adopters of this situation.

Simple bleach and water will kill this virus on surfaces …. Is DEVORE sanitizing these kennels?

What is Devore doing to stop this? Are the sick cats in quarantine?
