Samsung! It’s time for a flagship Square Wear OS Smartwatch

The Digital Canvas Has Evolved
For over a decade, Samsung has led the smartwatch market with circular hardware, paying homage to classic analog timepieces. But our smartwatches are no longer simple wrist jewelry or novelty step counters. They are daily communication hubs, productivity engines, workout monitors, and essential tools for navigating the day.
Yet, our software is inherently rectangular.
Text messages, email threads, calendar invites, transit QR codes, and fitness charts are structured in straight horizontal and vertical lines. Forcing this digital information onto a circular screen discards valuable display real estate and forces unnecessary interaction compromises.
We, the undersigned Samsung Galaxy users, Wear OS enthusiasts, and Android community, call on Samsung to introduce a dedicated square Galaxy Watch model.
Why a Square Display Is the Superior Daily Tool
1. ~27% More Screen on the Same Wrist Footprint
Basic geometry proves the difference: a 44 mm square screen yields over 27% more surface area than a 44 mm round screen within the exact same wrist width.
Persistent Corner Anchors: A square format provides four dedicated corners for vital complications—battery status, weather, upcoming calendar alerts, and heart rate—without encroaching on the central text container.
No Wasted Bounding Box: Users gain maximum visual area without having to wear an excessively wide, unwieldy chassis.
2. Workplace Productivity & Seamless Communication
No More Tapered Lines: On a round display, the middle line fits six words while the top and bottom taper down to one or two, causing frantic vertical scrolling. A square display ensures consistent line lengths for emails, Slack, Teams, and WhatsApp messages.
Readable Agenda Views: Side-by-side columns can display meeting times, locations, and descriptions without clipping.
Error-Free Previews: Boarding passes, two-factor authentication prompts, tickets, and camera previews display with zero corner truncation.
3. True-Width Typing & Natural Gestures
Accurate On-Screen Keyboard: Wear OS keyboards suffer on circular screens because edge letters (Q, P, A, Z, Enter, Backspace) are squeezed against curved glass. A square canvas provides uniform key spacing, making quick wrist replies practical.
Linear Touch Interactions: Swipes from edges follow natural horizontal and vertical paths, matching smartphone ergonomics and keeping fingers from blocking screen content.
4. High-Density Fitness Metrics & Navigation
6+ Data Fields at a Glance: Runners, lifters, and multi-sport athletes need simultaneous visibility of heart rate, pace, cadence, elapsed time, and elevation. A square screen accommodates a dense, legible metric grid so athletes do not have to swipe mid-stride.
Uncompromised GPX & Maps: Navigation tools and live trail routing lose up to 40% of upcoming turn-by-turn context along circular margins. A square screen preserves full map orientation.
5. Smarter Hardware & Accessibility
Optimized Battery Packaging: Battery cells, circuit boards, and linear haptic engines are manufactured rectangularly. A square chassis eliminates wasted internal space, allowing engineers to fit larger battery capacity into a slimmer profile.
Legibility for All: Users who need larger font sizes for accessibility face broken words and clipped buttons on round screens. A square display accommodates scaled text cleanly.
Honoring Heritage, Not Copying Competitors
Some argue that a square smartwatch merely copies others. In reality:Samsung Pioneered the Form Factor: Samsung was among the very first to launch square smartwatches with the original Galaxy Gear (2013) and Gear Live (2014). Bringing back a square screen is a continuation of Samsung’s own design lineage.
Rugged, Distinct Identity: With the industrial titanium frame and cushion silhouette introduced on the Galaxy Watch Ultra, Samsung proved it can build a squarish device that looks bold, durable, and unmistakably Galaxy.
The Call to Action
We love the Galaxy ecosystem, and we do not ask Samsung to eliminate the circular Classic lineup or the rotating bezel. We simply ask for real choice.
Give power users, busy professionals, athletes, and Android fans a flagship Square Galaxy Watch built for modern software, typing, and all-day productivity.
