Protect Skid Row
The Issue
Skid Row residents have long been the victims of criminalization and displacement. Soon, the Los Angeles Planning Commissioners will decide the fate of the thousands of people who call Skid Row home. Join us to demand:
Housing is a human right: The community of Skid Row (Main to Alameda & Third to Seventh) deserves protections from displacement and the preservation of all current affordable housing. Additionally, the city must pursue new funding sources for affordable housing and set aside at least 25% of new developments on Skid Row at a deeply affordable level for L.A. County residents in poverty.
Housing is not enough: Skid Row deserves access to sufficient green space, social space, and investment in culture and arts. This recovery community deserves opportunities for local employment (community sanitation), access to healthy food, and freedom from alcohol/marijuana-fueled redevelopment. Resources spent on criminalizing must be divested from police and put into supportive infrastructure.
Access and representation: Skid Row residents deserve a voice in decisions impacting them, requiring a representative body and resources that bridge the digital divide.
