Today Sam Papa was sent a copy of the results of the petition:
From the time we started on Monday 26th October to today Friday 20th November we achieved the following results:
• 452 Signatures (419 Online and 33 Hardcopy) supporting the petition to save Papa o Te Aroha Marae from the actions of the current Tokoroa Catholic Maori Society Committee. There are still more to gather but this is what we have as of today.
• 49 People willing to become members of POTAM in support of the retaining the status quo. Again, there are even more to be gathered but this is what we have as of today.
We have also informed the following people of the above situation and our approach to dealing with it and have received not only their concern about what is happening but their support for the action that we are taking:
• Pa Hemi Hekiera, Catholic Maori Mission, Rotorua
• Father Vincent Jones, St Patricks Putaruru and St Pius X Tokoroa
• Hori Deane, Raukawa Kaumatua Kaunihera
• Aunty Hera Harris and Aunty Ihapera Roycroft, TCMS Kuia
We presented to Bishop Steven Lowe, as Patron of our Marae these hard facts there is overwhelming support for the Strategy to Save Papa o Te Aroha Marae from the actions of the current Tokoroa Catholic Maori Society Committee.
Further there is a definitive list of complaints that have been directed at this same Committee and which we have brought together here so that once and for all the issues they raise and problems they describe may finally be dealt with for the good of our people and the community we live within.
We have asked the TCMS Committee for a Mediation Hui with them as the next step to receiving this information and as a way to resolve these issues.
We have asked the Bishop to initiate this and Pa Hemi Hekiera to facilitate the Hui.
We trust Sam Papa will share these facts with the Committee and help us all to reach a resolution that is pono and tika.
Mauri Ora and Gods Blessing to us all
