El refugio Fidelio ha estado apoyando a la ciudad de Benalmádena como organización sin ánimo de lucro durante más de 35 años, dedicado a cuidar y proteger a los animales abandonados. Nosotros, los organizadores de esta campaña, paseamos personalmente a miles de perros, les miramos a los ojos y les secamos las lágrimas, prometiéndoles seguridad y cariño. Organizábamos paseos, les dábamos atención y concienciábamos a través de redes sociales y campañas, todo como voluntarios sin cobrar. Hicimos esto porque cada perro, por muy asustado o abandonado que esté, merece cuidado, dignidad y una segunda oportunidad.

Les dijimos que estaban seguros—y ahora su tierra—y su único hogar—les ha sido arrebatado. Las caras que no se ven son las de los perros que están siendo rechazados por el refugio, porque las autoridades no permiten que entren nuevos perros. Para estos animales inocentes, ser rechazados no es solo un desaire—es una posible sentencia de muerte inmediata. Irónicamente, esto es el mismo destino que sufrieron los animales en la plaza de toros justo enfrente del refugio.

Incluso los perros que ya están en el refugio—Tyson, Byron, Maya, Eva, Omar y muchos más—sienten la angustia cuando suena el timbre y no se les permite la entrada a nuevos perros. Tyson se acobarda, Byron llora, Maya se esconde en un rincón, Eva tiembla y Omar mira con confusión silenciosa. Cada uno siente el dolor de ver a sus compañeros animales rechazados—su angustia es palpable, su tristeza innegable. Nosotros mismos estamos recibiendo mensajes urgentes de la comunidad suplicando ayuda para estos animales.

El refugio está programado para cerrar el 31 de julio de 2026, sin ninguna alternativa concreta. El promotor planea construir un restaurante y un aparcamiento directamente sobre el terreno del refugio—un punto que la ciudad nunca deja claro. Pregúntales tú mismo qué es exactamente lo que van a construir sobre el refugio. Mientras tanto, se está construyendo un cementerio chino cerca—pero no sobre el refugio. A pesar del espacio disponible y la necesidad urgente, se ha ignorado la seguridad de los perros.

Exigimos que los políticos locales tomen medidas inmediatas:

-Asegurar que se construya y funcione un nuevo refugio antes del 1 de agosto de 2026

-No más perros rechazados. ¡Abran las puertas ahora mismo!

-Priorizar la protección de los perros locales sobre otros intereses

-Garantizar un cuidado y gestión adecuados para todos los animales del refugio

Los votantes no olvidarán esta traición. Los responsables locales serán recordados en las próximas elecciones—y la comunidad les hará responsables por cada perro rechazado.

The Fidelio refuge has been supporting the city of Benalmádena as a non-profit organization for over 35 years, dedicated to caring for and protecting abandoned animals. We, the organizers of this campaign, personally walked thousands of dogs, looked them in the eyes, and wiped away their tears, promising them safety and love. We organized walks, gave attention, and raised awareness through social media and campaigns—all as unpaid volunteers. We did this because every single dog, no matter how scared or abandoned, deserves care, dignity, and a second chance.

We told them they were safe—and now their land—and their only home—has been ripped from under them. The faces that are not visible are the dogs being turned away by the shelter, because authorities will not allow any new dogs to enter. For these innocent animals, being turned away is not just rejection—it is a possible immediate death sentence. Ironically, this is the same fate that animals faced at the bullring directly across from the shelter.

Even dogs already in the shelter—Tyson, Byron, Maya, Eva, Omar, and many more—feel the heartbreak when the doorbell rings and new dogs are not allowed to enter. Tyson cowers, Byron whimpers, Maya hides in a corner, Eva trembles, and Omar stares with silent confusion. Each one experiences the pain of seeing their fellow animals denied safety and care—their heartbreak is palpable, their sorrow undeniable. We ourselves are receiving urgent messages from the community begging for help with these animals.

The shelter is scheduled to close on July 31, 2026, with no concrete alternative in place. The developer plans to build a restaurant and some parking directly over the shelter site—a point that the city never makes clear. Ask them yourself what exactly is being built over the shelter. Meanwhile, a Chinese cemetery is being built nearby—but not over the shelter. Despite the obvious space available and the urgent need, the dogs’ safety has been ignored.

We demand that local politicians take immediate action:

-Ensure a new shelter is built and operational before August 1, 2026

-No more rejected Dogs. Open the doors now!
-Prioritize the protection of local dogs over other interests
-Guarantee proper care and management for all shelter animals

Voters will not forget this betrayal. Local officials will be reminded of what happened at the next election—and the community will hold them accountable for every dog turned away.
